Electro Carbon is proud to highlight the nomination of our CEO, Martin Larocque, among the top 16 leaders in the clean economy in Canada.
This distinction is a wonderful recognition of all the hard work and efforts made by our team to realize the dream of our co-founders, Ulrich Legrand and Martin Larocque, to develop a unique CO2 valorization process to produce green molecules. Electro Carbon has thus become the first company to create the largest industrial CO2 electrolyzer in the world.
Canada's Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize 50 individuals or small teams from 16 different categories who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and a green economy in Canada over the past two years.
The leader in each category is also designated as part of the "Clean16," which names these 16 individual recipients as the top contributors in each of their respective categories. Martin was chosen as the top contributor in the Research and Development category.
The official recognition reads as follows;
Canada’s Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize those 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to contribute to the clean economy in Canada over the past 2 years.
Delta’s criteria in determining Honourees is to carefully consider actual measurable accomplishments, demonstrated innovation, collaboration with other organizations, and the power of the Honouree’s contribution to inspire other Canadians to take similar action.
Martin Larocque was chosen after rigorous screening and research by Delta Management, with advice from internal researchers and external advisors, and was among Honorees selected from an initial pool of well over 1,000 well qualified nominees.
The Clean50 honourees come from such a broad array of backgrounds, such that only a few individuals are able to be recognized within any given category. To receive a Clean50 award is truly indicative of nation-wide and personal leadership in the Research & Development category.
The process to narrow down to just 50 Honourees this year was extremely difficult for reviewers – we had a record number of nominees. The great news is that there are many wonderful and committed leaders in organizations across Canada, working in many different fields, who are concerned about the course of Canada’s future if we don’t all take action quickly. These individuals are rarely waiting for regulations to drive their organizations forward – but are leading by example and strategically harnessing sustainability as a force for innovation within their organizations. The individuals we chose for the Clean50 this year are true leaders, and should be an inspiration for all Canadians
The 2025 Clean16 are truly the leaders of the leaders in sustainability in Canada. The competition for the top spot this year in every instance left us with a record number of great choices - and to be selected from amongst such a strong group of peers is truly a testament to the contribution Martin Larocque has made to helping make Canada more sustainable for all Canadians.
The cumulative accomplishments of Canada’s Clean16 over the past 2 years adds up to a very big number of tons of GHGs avoided. All Canadians should be grateful for the leadership these individuals have shown – and for the support that their organizations have provided.
Martin Larocque will be amongst 144 past and incoming Clean50 Honourees meeting on Thursday October 10th at the “Clean50 Summit 14.0” in Toronto, to spend a day amongst peers and colleagues, tackling critical sustainability challenges facing Canada.
Of particular note on this year’s list is the number of individuals whose accomplishments would not have been feasible over the past few years without the support of the Federal government’s investment in clean tech, and climate action. Martin is one of those people.

About electro Carbon
Electro Carbon is a carbon technology company based in Beloeil, QC. It uses CO2 and clean electricity as raw materials to locally produce the cleanest potassium formate in the world through an electro-reduction process. This production method generates a net reduction of 2.15 tons of CO2 for every ton produced, compared to current methods that use fossil fuels from the Middle East and Asia. In the transition to carbon neutrality, our potassium formate offers a positive alternative for several industries, such as de-icing airplane runways, roads, and sensitive infrastructures. It is also used in agriculture as a fertilizer and as a heat transfer fluid in factories.
